"The phrase 'making' is integral to my work, I enjoy the qualities of different paints/inks, the marks they make and the processes involved in etching, collagraph, monoprints/monotype and digital manipulation. Much of my output is experimental. I etch aluminium using ‘non-toxic’ methods and have extended this by carving the printing plate and also using it as a collagraph base. Inking usually varies for each plate producing unique prints, not editions. I also add collage and use a variety of papers. Risk taking is inherent to this approach and brings with it a valued serendipity, often retrieving a work from the jaws of death.
My subject matter is often a matter of chance - something that suddenly touches me and sets off a reaction - the effects of light, a photograph, old oriental artwork, poem or some passing event. I want to be able to understand and simplify this to communicate the shared human response."
