Alyson Ross

An enchantment with history forms the foundation of my work. These pieces are made of waves of accretion and erosion, the archaeology of presence. Authentic historical materials connect me with age-old building tradition. They address a personal sense of unrootedness, conjure a borrowed history, counter unbelonging.
The imprint of a life on a space often demands a similar way to mark in the making. I have learnt my printmaking in a haphazard way as I have stumbled across the need. My concern with materials means I cannot always do things in the ordinary way.
