Jacqueline Jeynes

I am an art historian/ writer and tutor on Aberystwyth University History of Art distance learning modules. I have been a member of Aberystwyth Printmakers for several years and try to attend as many of their courses as possible to build up a range of different printmaking techniques.

Silk-screen printing was an element of my B.Ed(Hons) degree, moving on later to lino-cut block printing and mono-printing. Printmaking was also an element of my later BA (Hons) degree in Creative Arts, leading to an interest in wood block printing, collagraph, etching and some lithograph work.

Basically, I love to try out new techniques in printmaking as well as pen-and-ink sketches and using watercolours. I actually follow my own advice (given to my students) and enjoy keeping sketch books/learning journals for future reference. As I am a non-fiction author, including travel writing, I have found I am always trying to find ways to incorporate visual arts – for instance, including old paintings from National Library of Wales’ collections in my book “Walking Wales: The Art Lover’s Guide to Wye Valley Way”. I have lots of projects on the go – maybe a book on “The Art of the Pub” to make people look more closely at art that surrounds them even in the local pub!
