Ann Thomas

Frogs, newts, dandelion clocks and the need to be outdoors inspired Ann to sketch in the field from an early age. Her choice of Secondary School subjects led to a Degree in Zoology, Aberystwyth in 1974 followed by a profession teaching Science and Biology. For two years, 1988/89, Ann had the opportunity to study printmaking modules in Union College, Upper New York State and has enjoyed printmaking ever since.

Ann sketches outdoors at every available opportunity, both at home in Dolgellau and more recently in far flung countries such as Norway and Hungary. In 2017, she was commissioned to write and illustrate a sketchbook of flowers for a new World Heritage Centre on the Island of Vega, close to the Arctic Circle. The book “Wild Wonderful Plants’ was published in 2019. The Director of the Hortobágyi National Park in Hungary requested an exhibition of work representing the Great Hungarian Plain. The exhibition was hosted by Canolfan y Plase, Bala 2016.

For the past 25 years Ann has been a member of The North Wales Watercolour and Fine Artists Society and of the Meirionnydd Artists and has exhibited regularly with these Societies. She has also exhibited with the Royal Cambrian Academy and had a series of prints exhibited at Plas Glyn y Weddw.
